Vessel Safety Check Program

A major component of a fun filled outing is a boat which has all the necessary equipment operating properly. A vessel safety check is the answer and our vessel examiners ready to perform the check on your boat. The Vessel Safety Check process is one of “prevention through education, outreach and volunteer compliance” helping recreational boaters to gain a respect for the boating environment.

A Vessel Safety Check is a 15-point inspection which takes about 15-30 minutes and ensures your boat is in full compliance with all Federal and State boating laws. A Vessel Safety Check is FREE and Voluntary! If you do not pass, the vessel exam, the vessel examiner does not issue fines or contact law enforcement agencies however you can correct the deficiencies and have your boat re-examined, so it passes. Having a Vessel Safety Check, you gain the knowledge of the importance of compliance with the boating safety laws and how having the required safety equipment on board your boat saves lives. Boats that pass the examination are awarded a VSC Decal that alerts the Coast Guard and other law-enforcement agencies that your boat was found to be in full compliance with all Federal and State boating laws.

Discussions with recreational boaters and vessel examiners are designed to motivate boaters to maintain and operate their boats in a safe manner, taking boating safety courses to increase their knowledge and skills in boating, and promoting safe boating.
