Vessel Safety Check Program

A major component of a fun filled outing on the water is a boat which has all the necessary equipment operating properly. A vessel safety check is a courtesy examination of your boat to verify the presence and condition of certain Safety Equipment required by State and Federal regulations. A Vessel Safety Check is  “prevention through education," helping recreational boaters gain a respect for the boating environment.

A Vessel Safety Check is FREE and Voluntary! If you do not pass, the vessel exam, the vessel examiner does not issue fines or contact law enforcement agencies however you can correct the deficiencies and have your boat re-examined, so it passes. Having a Vessel Safety Check, you gain the knowledge of the importance of compliance with the boating safety laws and how having the required safety equipment on board your boat saves lives. Boats that pass the examination are awarded a VSC Decal that alerts the Coast Guard and other law-enforcement agencies that your boat was found to be in full compliance with all Federal and State boating laws.

Discussions with recreational boaters and vessel examiners are designed to motivate boaters to maintain and operate their boats in a safe manner, taking boating safety courses to increase their knowledge and skills in boating, and promoting safe boating.
