What Is a Vessel Safety Check?

A great day on the water begins before you leave the dock. It starts with a vessel that is properly equipped, well maintained, and ready for safe operation.

A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is a free courtesy inspection conducted by trained examiners to help ensure your boat carries required safety equipment and that it is accessible and in good working condition. The check is voluntary and penalty-free.  Boats that pass receive a VSC decal indicating they recently met safety standards.

Many boaters who meet our examiners later choose to join America’s Boating Club Grosse Pointe.
